2 Days in Porto, Portugal
Day 1
São Bento Station - Arriving at this station (by train), it is already in the city of Porto! It's a very beautiful station with incredible tiles! It is in the Plaza de Almeida Garrett, and was officially inaugurated on October 5, 1916.
Church of Ildefonso - Like many tourist attractions in the city of Porto, this church stands out mainly for its tiles, which in total are approximately 11,000 tiles, which can be found in front and on the side of the Church. They were designed by Jorge Colaço, who also made the tiles of the S. Bento Railway Station. Both tiles are dated December 31, 1931, and depict scenes from the gospel and the life of the saint who gave the church its name.
Capela das Almas - Built in 1929 and once again the highlight is the tiles, these are on the outside and represent moments of the life of St. Francis of Assisi and Santa Catarina.
Bolhão Market - Located in front of the Capela das Almas. Built in 1914 in order to guarantee the distribution of food to the city.
Câmara Municipal - The construction began in 1920 and the central tower is 70 meters high.
Avenida dos Aliados - If you go down Av. Dos Aliados, where the City Hall is located and where we can still find Praça da Liberdade.
Mc Donald's Imperial ( Praça da Liberdade No. 126) - Opened as Mc Donald's in 1995, it once housed the historic Imperial Cafe in the 1940s. Although today it is Mc Donald's, the details of Café Imperial have been preserved, including the Imperial Eagle, in the facade, decorative friezes and Art Deco stained glass.
Lello Bookstore - Entrance: € 3. It is a construction of the early 20th century and often called one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. It was opened by the Lello brothers in 1906. For me, what I can say is that it has an air of Harry Potter irresistible! Even why, according to J.K, Lello was his inspiration for Floreios & Blurs !!
Torre dos Clérigos - Entrance: 3 €. Get ready to climb, climb and climb (240 steps) in a space that often does not fit two people at once, but it's worth it, because the view of the city is unique! It began to be constructed in 1932 and its construction was only finished in 1963. It is 76 meters high, and baroque style.
Miradouro da Vitória - Located at R. de São Bento da Vitória,No 11, the space was built at the end of the 18th century and received the liberal cannons of the troops of D. Pedro, in 1832 and 1833. It is another beautiful place to observe the city from above.
Church Monument of San Francisco - Construction of the XIV century. It is one of the most important works of the Baroque in the city.
Porto Cathedral - It began to be built in the 12th century, and was only completed in the 13th century. From the courtyard we also got a wonderful view of the city.
Luiz I Brigde- Definitely the best choice to see the sunset! At the foot of the Fernandina wall, we had a great view! Be careful, as trains still circulate on this bridge, but as long as they do not honk, you can circulate at will.
If you have time: Monastery Serra do Pilar (on the other side of the river, very close to Luiz I Bridge)
Praça da Ribeira - Ideal place to eat something.
Dia 2
Crystal Palace Gardens
Walk to Foz do Douro - it is a long walk, but worth it, very beautiful view and you can know all the Ribeira.
Boat trip on the River Douro - € 12 only the boat trip and € 15 if we buy along with the tour through the Caves of Porto. Cruise of the 6 Bridges. Very beautiful the ride and once again, it's worth it!
Visit the Caves of Porto - if you like wine and tasting, this is a must stop! Great for sampling the famous Port wine and if you want, take some home for a great price!
I hope you have enjoyed the post and have the opportunity to visit this city!
