Travel Guide: Venice

Is Venice the most romantic city in the world?
It's certainly hard to say no, especially when staying in the center of this city.
Where is?
Venice is a city built on the water - off the northeast coast of Italy, facing the Mediterranean Sea - and is famous for the network of canals, palaces and beautiful religious buildings and art. There is an airport near, but from there, you need to take a water bus to get to the city.
Where can I stay?
The best way to get to know Venice is to stay in a hotel with comfort, tranquility and sophistication. The hotels are a bit small but very well designed and offer truce from the tourist crowd and the kind of service you would expect from places are much more expensive. Try Ca 'Pisani, a small palazzo that has been pleasantly renovated and decorated to provide a haven of tranquility, or the Ca Maria Adele, an eclectic boutique hotel in one of Venice's most exclusive neighborhoods.
What can I see?
For a relatively small town, there is so much to see.
The central area of St. Mark's Square with the Ducal Palace and the Campanile is a great place to hang out and soak up the atmosphere, although bars and cafes here can be pricey. Instead, visit the churches, galleries and restaurants that are a bit out of the way, where the ambiance and tradition are still rich. If you have time, visit the neighboring islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello, it has all historical and well worth visiting.
How to visit Venice?
One of the beauties of Venice is that it has no roads. Most tourists use the aquatic system (Vaporetto) which is regular and fairly inexpensive. Those who are looking for romantic Venice can hire a gondola at a higher cost. By far the best way to explore the city, however, is by foot. That way, you can reach all parts of the city through water buses to discover architectural wonders and shop.
